A New AC, Sized Right for Your Home
Phoenix-area summers push an air conditioner harder than almost anywhere in the country. When it’s 115 outside, your system runs most of the day, year after year, until one summer it just can’t keep up. When that day comes, the worst thing you can do is grab whatever unit fits the budget and hope it’s the right size.
PlumbSmart installs new central AC across Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe, Gilbert, and the rest of the Valley. We start with a Manual J load calculation, not a guess, so your new system matches your home’s square footage, insulation, and sun exposure. Size it too small and it runs all day. Size it too big and it short-cycles and never pulls the humidity. We get it right the first time.
Why Homeowners Call PlumbSmart First
- A real Manual J load calc, so your system is sized right.
- Upfront, flat-rate pricing you approve before we start.
- Often well below the big-name AC companies’ bids.
- NATE-certified techs, licensed under ROC 223709, 289252, 301084.
- Financing from $99/month, with 0% APR on qualifying installs.
- A lifetime warranty stands behind every install we do.
“A/C system is wearing out. Had a visit with Jacob from Plumb Smart today. Monday we are set for a full system upgrade. Jacob was professional, informative and able to answer all our questions. He even had a very good sense of humor which helps when dropping money. Can’t wait for the new equipment next week!”
What Goes Into a Good Install
A new AC is only as good as the install behind it. Here’s what we cover on every replacement, the stuff a cut-rate crew skips and you pay for later.
Right-Size Load Calc
We run a Manual J on your home, not a rule of thumb. Square footage, insulation, and sun exposure decide the tonnage.
SEER2 Efficiency Match
We match the SEER2 rating to your budget and your power bill. Higher efficiency costs more up front and saves all summer.
Clean Removal & Haul-Away
The old unit comes out, the refrigerant gets recovered properly, and we haul it all off. You’re not left with a junked condenser.
New R-454B Systems
The systems we install run the new R-454B refrigerant, so you’re set up for the long haul, not the phase-out.
Thermostat & Controls
A smart thermostat that actually talks to the new system, set up and tested before we leave.
Permits & Code
We pull the permit and install to code, so your system passes inspection and your warranty stays valid.
Ductwork Check
A new AC pushing air through leaky ducts wastes money. We check the duct system and flag what needs sealing.
Lifetime Warranty
Every install is backed by our lifetime warranty on the work, on top of the manufacturer’s parts coverage.
Financing From $99/mo
New systems start at $99 a month, with 0% APR plans on qualifying installs. A new AC doesn’t have to wait.
How Our AC Install Works
Four steps, no surprises. You know the system and the price before we order anything.
In-Home Load Calc
A licensed tech measures your home and runs a Manual J to size the system right. Never a trip charge.
Upfront Flat Quote
You get clear options and one flat price to approve before we order. The bill matches the quote.
The Install
We pull the permit, remove the old unit, install the new system clean, and often finish in a day.
Test & Warranty
We test the full system, set the thermostat, clean up, and back it with our lifetime warranty.
A Look at the Trane We Install
This is a rundown of the Trane XR14, one of the workhorse systems we put in across the Valley. It’s a solid, efficient unit built to take Arizona summers, and the video walks through what you’re actually getting under the hood.
As a Trane Comfort Specialist, we’ll help you pick the model and SEER2 rating that fits your home and your power bill, then install it clean.

What Does a New AC Cost in Mesa?
Honest answer: it depends on the size and efficiency you need. A right-sized single-stage unit costs less than a high-SEER2 variable-speed system, and your home’s square footage drives the tonnage. What never changes is how we price it. You get a flat quote up front and approve it before we order anything, so there’s no creeping bill and no surprise at the end.
When It’s Time to Replace, Not Repair
Here’s the framework we use. If your unit is past 12 to 15 years, leaking refrigerant again and again, or a single repair runs more than a third of a new system, replacement usually wins over the long haul. Add the Arizona run time, where a system ages faster than it would almost anywhere else, and the case gets clearer.
One thing that tips the scale: older systems run on R-410A refrigerant, which is being phased out in favor of R-454B. As supply tightens, recharging a leaky R-410A unit only gets pricier. If yours leaks repeatedly, putting that money toward a new R-454B system is usually the smarter move, and we’ll show you the numbers so it’s your call, not a sales pitch.
Get the Most From a New System
A new AC sized and installed right will run quieter, cut your power bill, and hold up through the worst of the summer. Once it’s in, an annual AC tune-up clears the coil of monsoon dust, checks refrigerant, and keeps the warranty valid. Not sure replacement is the answer yet? Our central AC repair team can look first and give you the honest version.
“A big thanks to manager Derek, and pros Derek and Julian! They were a great team, removing my friend’s broken HVAC and installing the new system. They kept us in the loop during the whole process, answered our questions, explaining details, putting up dust covers, tarps and canvas walkways, and doing a super cleanup. Thanks again for sending a pro team!”

AC Replacement Questions, Answered
How Long Does a New AC Installation Take?
Most standard swap-outs are a one-day job. We pull the old unit in the morning, set the new system, wire it up, charge it, and test everything before we leave. Installs that need new ductwork, a different platform, or electrical changes can run into a second day, and we’ll tell you that up front when we quote it so there are no surprises.
How Much Does a New AC System Cost in Mesa?
It comes down to size and efficiency. A right-sized single-stage unit costs less than a high-SEER2 variable-speed system, and your home’s square footage sets the tonnage. We give you a flat, upfront quote after a free in-home estimate, with clear options at different price points. Many customers tell us our bids come in well below the big-name companies. Financing starts at $99 a month.
What Size AC Do I Need for My Home?
The honest answer is that nobody can tell you without measuring. We run a Manual J load calculation that factors in your square footage, insulation, windows, ceiling height, and sun exposure. Guessing the size is the most common install mistake in the Valley. Too small and it never keeps up in July. Too big and it short-cycles, never pulls the humidity, and wears out early.
What SEER2 Rating Do I Need in Arizona?
SEER2 measures cooling efficiency, and in Arizona it matters more than almost anywhere because your AC runs so many hours a year. Code minimum in our region is 14.3 SEER2. Stepping up to a higher rating costs more up front but trims your power bill every single summer. We’ll lay out the payback on a couple of options so you can pick what fits your budget and how long you plan to stay in the home.
Do You Haul Away My Old AC Unit?
Yes. Removal and haul-away are part of the install. We recover the old refrigerant properly, take out the old condenser and air handler, and clear everything off your property. You’re not left with a dead unit sitting on the side of the house or a coil in the garage.
Do You Offer Financing on a New AC?
We do. New systems start at $99 a month, and we offer 0% APR plans on qualifying installs. A failed AC in the middle of summer is the worst time for a big lump-sum bill, so financing lets you get cool now and pay over time. We’ll walk you through the options during your free estimate.
What AC Brands Do You Install?
We’re a Trane Comfort Specialist, so we install a lot of Trane and Bosch systems, but we’ll put in whatever brand fits your home and budget, including Carrier, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, Amana, York, and American Standard. We’ll be straight with you about which ones hold up best in Arizona heat.
What Warranty Comes With a New Install?
Two layers. The manufacturer covers the equipment and parts, usually 10 years on registered systems, and PlumbSmart backs the labor and the install itself with our lifetime warranty. If something we installed doesn’t hold up, we come back and make it right. Keeping up with your annual maintenance is what keeps the manufacturer’s coverage valid.
My AC Uses R-410A. Should I Replace It Now?
R-410A refrigerant is being phased out in favor of R-454B, and as supply tightens, recharging an older leaky unit gets more expensive every year. If your R-410A system is aging and leaking, putting that money toward a new R-454B system usually makes more sense than chasing leaks. If it’s running fine, there’s no rush. We’ll give you the honest read, not a scare tactic.
When Should I Replace Instead of Repair?
Our rule of thumb: if the unit is past 12 to 15 years, leaking refrigerant again and again, or a single repair runs more than a third of a new system, replacement usually wins over the long haul. Arizona run time ages a system faster than most places, which moves that line in. If you’re not sure yet, our central AC repair team can look first.
Do You Pull Permits and Install to Code?
Yes, always. We pull the permit and install to current code, which protects your warranty and means the system passes inspection. A cut-rate crew that skips the permit can leave you on the hook later, both with the city and with the manufacturer if a warranty claim comes up. We do it the right way the first time.
What Areas Do You Serve for AC Installation?
We cover Mesa, Phoenix, Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler, Scottsdale, Queen Creek, Apache Junction, Fountain Hills, and the surrounding Valley communities. Not sure if you’re in range? Call 480-654-8865 in Mesa or 623-250-2238 in Phoenix and we’ll let you know.
