Installs that need new ductwork, a different platform, or electrical changes can run into a second day, and we’ll tell you that up front when we quote it so there are no surprises.

It comes down to size and efficiency. A right-sized single-stage unit costs less than a high-SEER2 variable-speed system, and your home’s square footage sets the tonnage. The honest answer is that nobody can tell you without measuring. We run a Manual J load calculation that factors in your square footage, insulation, windows, ceiling height, and sun exposure. Guessing the size is the most common install mistake in the Valley. Too small and it never keeps up in July. Too big and it short-cycles, never pulls the humidity, and wears out early.

SEER2 measures cooling efficiency, and in Arizona it matters more than almost anywhere because your AC runs so many hours a year. Code minimum in our region is 14.3 SEER2. Stepping up to a higher rating costs more up front but trims your power bill every single summer. We’ll lay out the payback on a couple of options so you can pick what fits your budget and how long you plan to stay in the home.

Yes. Removal and haul-away are part of the install. We recover the old refrigerant properly, take out the old condenser and air handler, and clear everything off your property. You’re not left with a dead unit sitting on the side of the house or a coil in the garage.

Two layers. The manufacturer covers the equipment and parts, usually 10 years on registered systems, and PlumbSmart backs the labor and the install itself with our lifetime warranty. If something we installed doesn’t hold up, we come back and make it right. Keeping up with your annual maintenance is what keeps the manufacturer’s coverage valid.

R-410A refrigerant is being phased out in favor of R-454B, and as supply tightens, recharging an older leaky unit gets more expensive every year. If your R-410A system is aging and leaking, putting that money toward a new R-454B system usually makes more sense than chasing leaks. If it’s running fine, there’s no rush. We’ll give you the honest read, not a scare tactic.

Our rule of thumb: if the unit is past 12 to 15 years, leaking refrigerant again and again, or a single repair runs more than a third of a new system, replacement usually wins over the long haul. Yes, always. We pull the permit and install to current code, which protects your warranty and means the system passes inspection. A cut-rate crew that skips the permit can leave you on the hook later, both with the city and with the manufacturer if a warranty claim comes up. We do it the right way the first time.
